CFOT: Certified Fiber Optic Technician

This 2-day, instructor-led, hands-on course is for anyone who wants to become a Certified Fiber Optic Technician. Complete the CFOT online training at Fiber U first and bring your certificate of completion to class. The course is about 85% hands-on: you identify fiber types and connectors, then install, terminate, splice and test premises cable to current standards (ANSI/TIA-568, NECA/FOA-301, TIA-607 grounding and bonding, NEC Article 770). It also covers fusion and mechanical splicing and live OTDR traces. The FOA CFOT exam is given and graded on the final day. Tuition includes the exam and all course materials.

CFOS/S: Certified Fiber Optic Specialist, Splicing

The FOA certification for technicians splicing primarily outside plant (OSP) cable for concatenation and termination. Skills include preparing many cable types, fusion splicing, placing splices in trays and trays in closures, and testing splices with an OTDR.

For technicians testing fiber cable plants and communications systems during and after installation and troubleshooting networks. It covers visual inspection and cleaning, visual tracing and fault location, optical power, insertion loss and OTDR testing.

An application specialist certification covering broadband FTTx networks, cabling design and installation, including PON networks (formerly FOA CFxT). For anyone building or maintaining FTTH networks.

Expands the CFOT KSAs to OSP construction and installation of aerial and underground cable plants: installing and preparing OSP cables, fusion splicing for concatenation and termination, and testing with a focus on OTDRs.
